Patisserie Valerie first arrived in London (in Soho) in 1926, when Belgian-born Madame Valerie decided to introduce the sophisticated taste of the continent - hand-made cakes, patisseries, croissants and Vienneoisserie - to the culinary uncouth English. Now a successful chain, you'll find Pat Val in around a dozen London locations. They also makes their own gelato, confectionery and savoury snacks. Service can be poor and branches vary in style. Take a look in first and if you like the feel of the place the coffee and cakes and baked savouries are unlikely to disappoint.
