NileGuide Expert tip:
Go on Sunday when adjacent markets are also on and the whole area is buzzing.
Beer was first produced on the site of this Spitalfields landmark in the 1660s. It became the largest brewery in London and traded until 1988. Today its 11-acre Brick Lane site is the throbbing heart of trendy new Spitalfields, developed to accommodate more than 200 small creative businesses plus some of London's trendiest one-off shops and markets. Its flagship Sunday Upmarket was recently voted 'Best Market for New Designers' by Time Out
. Around 200 stalls, including a large indoor food area, attracts traders from around the world, with the focus on up-and-coming designers and artists. The complex also hosts
galleries, restaurants, bars and nightspots.
