"The American Cemetery in the Netherlands is about 2 hours south of Amsterdam at Margraten. You can get there easily by driving or taking a train to Maastricht and then hiring a car. It's an absolutely beautiful cemetery and very moving. The Dutch people were so grateful for the Americans, that most if not all of the graves here were adopted and cared for by local families after the war. That responsibility was handed down, so even now, local families come and take care of these dear American graves. There is a Memorial Day service and a Veteran's Day service every year at the Netherlands American Cemetery where local American servicemen and women and children of military families stationed in the area participate.
