Description:

Learn about Wisconsin's history through a tour of the Madison State Capitol building. It's open to the public Monday through Fridays, between 8AM and 6PM. Free tours are offered daily. The current building standing is the third one in the Madison location. It was built between 1906 and 1917 and cost over seven million dollars. The dome at the top is over 200 feet tall and the only one made of granite in the United States. Another interesting fact is that it is the only state capitol built on an isthmus. Inside the capitol, the dome is decorated with an intricate mural titled "Resources of Wisconsin". In addition, there are 43 varieties of stone and colorful glass mosaics on display.
