Saturday and Sunday lunch draws a large crowd of mostly local families.

Description:

El Bajio is a very well known restaurant in Mexico City, especially famous for it's carnitas (pork) and Mexican food from the sate of Veracruz. For many years it was an unattractive and unappealing storefront in an industrial part of the city, way off the beaten path but the thing about it is it was always packed, with people standing for an hour to get a table.

Over the last few years they have expanded and refurbished their image without losing their roots. The one I always go to is in Polanco, close to the hotel district. It is a very attractive place, with friendly and fast service, the walls are decorated with arts and crafts from all over the country and the smell of freshly made tortillas will make your mouth water.

I have tried many items on the menu and I have enjoyed every single one of them, when I go there with a group we all ask for something different and share. They have all the brands of beer you can think of and typical Mexican soft drinks made from horchata and jamaica are their specialty.
