NileGuide Expert tip:

If you have never tried mole, this is the time to do it.

La Bella Lula sits across the street from the British embassy and three blocks from the US embassy. From the outside it looks like a quaint place where locals eat but once you enter you will find that they have the most authentic and delicious mole outside the state of Oaxaca.

The decor is very simple and unpretentious, the menu varied but focused mostly on chicken and mole dishes that are surprisingly inexpensive. An chicken entree with a side order of rice or beans is under $10US. They also have some great desserts and they stock a full bar, something not all restaurants in Mexico have.

I have had lunch here at least ten times and I have yet to see a tourist, not because it's not a clean or good, I think it's because they simply don't know about it. The patrons are mostly office workers from the hundreds of nearby buildings on Reforma having a long leisurely lunch.

La Bella Lula is a five minute walk to the Zona Rosa and approximately half way between Chapultepec and downtown so if you are walking along Reforma its a perfect place to stop for a typical and very affordable meal.
