NileGuide Expert tip:

The irregular hours and remote location are well worth the secret bit of cowboy-country eating at the Stockyard Cafe.

Description:

There is nothing fancy about the Stockyard Cafe in Bozeman, Montana, and yet their food is likely the best greasy-spoon diner grub in all of Montana. The building is a run-down, the tables have seen better days, and your drinking glass may have a chip in it.  It's a taste of rural cowboy country in upscale Bozeman.  The folks of Bozeman don't mind that their hours are very irregular.  But when you do find it open, the parking lot will be packed and you might have to share a table with some old fishermen or alumni of the university.  The service is relaxed and matter of fact.  Don't go if you are in a hurry, or are overly fussy.  Go if you like made-to-order griddle classics, chummy service, and down-home atmosphere.

The Stockyard Cafe doesn't advertise, and exists purely by word of mouth.  Even locals consider this place out-of-the-way and almost a secret.
