Tropical Gardens Road and Gambier Heights off West Bay Street
This bed and breakfast is less than a decade old but is built to mimic a traditional plantation style Bahamian home of years past, with clapboard sides, wooden floors and ceilings and wide porches from which you can take in the view. Located in the western side of New Providence, A Stone's Throw Away is further away than its name would suggest from the hustle and bustle of downtown Nassau or tourist mecca Paradise Island, and most popular with people coming to Nassau to dive (the country's most famous dive shop, Stuart Coves, is located within a 10 minute drive) or for couples looking for a romantic and secluded retreat. Among the amenities at this location, which can accommodate 20 guests in its eight king sized rooms and two "exclusive suites" at any one time, are a pool in the gardens, a lounge and bar and restaurant. Ask many of its guests and you will be told that it is the sweeping panoramic views which may be the most breathtaking aspect of A Stone's Throw Away - it sits atop one of the highest elevations in Nassau, overlooking the azure ocean below.
