Description:

The Marieta Islands, accessible only by boat, is one of Puerto Vallarta's most popular destinations for sea kayakers, snorkelers and scuba divers; and with good reason. The islands, just off the northern coast of the Banderas Bay, is a lush, windswept national Marine Reserve, and home to countless species of birds, sea-turtles, dolphins, whales and a myriad of other sea life. With its dramatic underwater caves and deep crystal-clear water, Las Marietas are a marine haven where the churning sea is alive with giant manta rays, whales, dolphins and a dizzying array of stunningly colored tropical fish. The Marieta Islands are protected by the Mexican government and, for the safety of the wildlife they do not permit overnight camping. There are dozens of good tours to choose from that will take you there for a half or full-day excursion, allowing you to combine an extraordinary day of sun, leisure and adventure while snorkeling, sea kayaking and discovering the rich tropical ecosystem on the secluded island and beach hideaways of the beautiful Banderas Bay.
