Palm Beach Family Fun Week

Description:

Explore great beaches, museums and parks with the kids in Palm Beach County. Go first class and stay at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach and you may decide to never leave (in which case you might not need to rent a car). Or you can rent a car and stay at a more budget-conscious hotel and pick your own destinations for food, entertainment and fun. Or just pick and choose what you like from the list and create your own perfect "NileGuide".

Day 1 - Palm Beach

A week in South Florida can get very expensive. Lodging will definitely be your biggest expense. Here are three great lodging options. If you want to go first class and stay in Palm Beach, The Breakers is the way to go. It has an amazing beachfront, seven restaurants, retail shops, daily kids camp, and a spa and fitness center. It is set in a historical building overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Rooms here will run $250-$2500 night depending on the room and the time of year you visit. If you are looking for a nice, but more economical hotel, I would recommend two nice places in Delray Beach, about 30 minutes south of Palm Beach. Delray Beach is a quaint little beach town and is more casual and family-friendly than the posh and exclusive Palm Beach. Crane's Beach House is a charming little (27 unit) two story family-run hotel. It is a few blocks from the beach, but really has a homey feel to it. If you like chain hotels better, the Residence Inn in Delray Beach is a good bet and includes free breakfast every morning. It is also just a few blocks from the beach. On day one, check in to your hotel and get settled in. Here are two dining options for dinner. Flagler Steakhouse is an upscale steakhouse overlooking The Breakers golf course in Palm Beach and Rosalita's is one of the best authentic Mexican food places in Palm Beach county and it is on the way south towards Delray Beach, just a few miles off of I-95S. Both are great choices for dinner.

Day 2 - Palm Beach

A day in West Palm Beach- Start with a quick and cheap breakfast at Palm Beach's most famous diner, Green's Pharmacy. This no-frills diner serves up the cheapest eats on the Island with meals under $5! Then head to the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum to see the house where Henry Flagler lived during the famous Gilded Age. The kids would get a thrill out of the Diva Duck tour or a Palm Beach Water Taxi tour of the area and the intracoastal to learn a little bit of history on the area. If the temperatures are sweltering let the kids take a dip at the Centennial Square Fountains and then walk around Clematis Street and City Place, taking in the stores and stopping for lunch in one of the many eateries in this outdoor mall. If you are visiting during the Holidays, and you are in the mood for a sweet treat, stop in at Hoffman's for some chocolate, a real crowd-pleaser. The property is decorated with a "Santa's Village" and the kids can watch the chocolates being made thru a glass window. For dinner head back to City Place to try Mark's City Place or Bellagio. If you are staying in Delray and want to head someplace nice for dinner, go to Mizner park in downtown Boca Raton to Max's Grille, or if you want something extra casual, try Pizza Rustica on Atlantic Avenue right outside the Residence Inn. It has every kind of pizza you can imagine and you can even order take out and have it by your hotel pool!

Day 3 - Palm Beach

For a tasty and reasonably priced lunch, try Hamburger Heaven in Palm Beach or Cafe Lunna Rosa, right on the Ocean, in Delray Beach. Spend the day at the beach in Delray Beach, or if you are in Palm Beach, you can spend it at The Breakers or at the public beach, Mid-Town Beach. If you are not up for the beach, check out Lion Country Safari. It is a long drive west so be prepared. After a long day, have dinner in Delray at City Oyster on Atlantic Ave. or in Palm Beach at the Palm Beach Grill just a few blocks from The Breakers.

Day 4 - Palm Beach

If Sunday Brunch is your thing and you are staying at The Breakers, you must make reservations for their famous Sunday Brunch in the Circle Dining Room. It is amazing and you can dine in a magnificent setting. If you are staying in Delray Beach, try The Sundy House for a fabulous (and less expensive) option. The labyrinth of gardens, fountains and pools of fish will entertain your children and the food is great too. If lunch is more your thing, the "Upper Deck" at Boston's On the Beach offers a great second story view of the ocean and serves sandwiches and salads. Or for lunch in Palm Beach, try E.R. Bradley's on the intracoastal and dine under an open-air covered deck with a great view of the water. After lunch, head to the beach again, or if you want to explore the famous swampland and the natural ecosystems of South Florida, take a tour with Billie Swamp Safari. Once again, this adventure takes place far west of the beaches, so be prepared for a drive. For dinner in Palm Beach, check out The Grotto for Italian food and oven-fired pizzas, or DaDa for an eclectic outdoor-dining experience.
