NileGuide Expert tip:

If you can't book the fresco room, many of the other rooms feature original works of art

Description:

Situated at the best crossroads of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, this three-star hotel occupies a mansion that once belonged to one of Louis XIV's architects, Daniel Gittard, who created its classical façade in 1658. During 2011, it is undergoing a timely redecoration to bring its 38 rooms up to date, but it's certain that the splendid 17th-century painting on the ceiling of the Fresco Room will be preserved. Ask for Room No. 100 and you will sleep under a 300-year-old fresco of the Ecole de Versailles representing Virtue and Goodwill. And not much can be done in such a historic building about the quirky proportions of some of the rooms. All rooms are air-conditioned with satellite television and minibar. Additionally, many have a view over the hotel's green courtyard garden, where guests can retreat from the frenetic activity of the streets outside.
