With such over-the-top décor, you might need to wear your sunglasses indoors
Opened in July 2007, the four-star Hotel Bellechasse Saint Germain has a very French special feature: each of its 34 rooms was designed by the couturier Christian Lacroix, the darling of fashionistas everywhere. It's safe to say if his name means nothing to you, it's not worth your staying here. As well as ensuite bathrooms, the 34 soundproofed, air-conditioned bedrooms all have free wifi, iPod docks, flatscreen cable televisions and minibars. Continental breakfast is taken in the dining room or in your own room. The hotel is conveniently placed in Saint-Germain for the Musée d'Orsay and the arty delights of the Latin Quarter, though the walls of your bedroom – which might variously be trompe-l'oeil palm trees, Pompeii-style frescos or giant playing cards - should provide enough artistic stimulus for anyone.
