Day 1 - Philadelphia

On your first day in Philly, you'll take in a bit of history and a bit of the culture that Philadelphia is known for. Start your day at Independence Hall, where you'll learn about the nation's history and also view the beautiful neighborhood of Society Hill. Then head to the Painted Bride Art Center for an exhibition and the Print Center for some fascinating works on paper. Be sure to get some coffee at Old City Coffee, one of the city's finest coffee roasters. Then make your way to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and finally to dinner at one of Philly's best new BYOB's, Matyson. A trip to center city wouldn't be complete without having a beer at Fergie's; the bar's namesake owns several popular pubs in the city. You'll be staying in the historic neighborhood of Germantown, where you can see some of the "summer homes" of our nation's founders.

Day 2 - Philadelphia

Start your day with a peaceful stroll through the Awbury Arboretum. Then head back downtown for a Mural Tour, which will show you several of Philadelphia's nearly 3,000 murals and some neighborhoods that most tourists don't see. After the mural tour, stay in the Art Museum area for lunch at Jack's Firehouse, a firehouse-turned-gourmet restaurant. Then devote your afternoon to the Barnes Foundation in the suburbs (be sure to make a reservation as far in advance as you can), which offers one of the most comprehensive and most unique collections of European art in the city. For dinner, check out the neighborhood of Manayunk, which feels like a city unto itself. Jake's is a consistent Manayunk establishment, and Grape Street Pub has been an important music venue for emerging artists for many years.
