To visit the island you need to take a ferry. Call Island Ventures at 787-842-8546 for more information. The trip is about $17 per person, round trip. The ferry runs once a day on weekends and holidays. It departs from La Guancha at 9am and departs from Isla Caja de Muertos at 3:30pm. Reservations are required.

Description:

Isla Caja de Muertos is a beautiful island 8 miles off the south coast of Ponce on the southern side of Puerto Rico. Famous for its undeniable beauty and untouched landscape and featuring lovely hiking trails, a historic lighthouse and even a cave, the island can be reached by ferry with Island Venture or by scheduling a tour of the island with a private tour company.

The island is less than 2 miles long and less than one mile wide and it is a nature reserve. The beaches are truly pristine with one of them, Pelican Beach, designated as a Blue Flag Beach. This means the water around the island is constantly being tested for cleanliness and there are guards vigilant of all happenings around the island. The ferry will take you to one side of the island. The other side is hard to reach and some beaches are protected during turtle-nesting season. Some secret spots can only be reached by private boat.
