What could be tastier on a warm winter day in Florida than a lime, orange or pineapple sherbet ice cream cone purchased at a farm stand at 111 South Albee Farm Road in Nokomis, south of Sarasota. Somewhat hidden from the usual tourist destinations, but not far off U.S. 41 (Tamiami Trail) the farm stand is a favorite stop for dozens of visitors who often line up at the window on a warm Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Nokomis Groves is open on weekdays too. If you are there in season you also can ship a box of sweet, fresh-from-the-grove oranges, grapefruit or tangerines to someone you left behind back in snow country. Or just pick up a jar of marmalade to spread on your toast when you return home. Family owned, Nokomis Groves has been an important stop for visitors for 62 years.
