Description:

For those who crave something different in their theatrical offerings, The Players Ring in Portsmouth may have just what you are seeking. Or maybe not. That's the fun of The Players Ring – you're never quite sure what you will be seeing on stage. This small theater company, located in an historic warehouse adjacent to Portsmouth's scenic Prescott Park, offers stage fare in an intimate setting that ranges from the traditional to the experimental. Most productions are original and even more familiar plays include some regional perspective. One run may feature a staging of Shakespeare's classic, The Tempest. The following month, you could be treated to a show penned by a local playwright that both baffles and entertains. A recent presentation featured a compilation of ten minute sketches with Steampunk science fiction mysteries as their theme. Another play, titled The Gay Bride of Frankenstein, can best be described as Rocky Horror Picture Show meets Scooby Doo and included a Rock and Roll orchestra whose members performed in Halloween costumes. Following stellar reviews, this play even had a brief Off Broadway run in New York. Even those presentations that don't quite succeed – and there have been a few – are always interesting. It's a chance you'll have to take but, at an average price of $12 per ticket, it's worth the gamble.  By all means, give The Players Ring a try!
