"In Munich, the Schwabing-Freimann neighborhood (close to the Englischer Garten) is a livable, trendy neighborhood with lots of Art Nouveau architectural and ornamental details filled with up and coming restaurants and bars away from the bustle of the Altstadt (downtown). While in Altstadt, be sure to duck into the Bürgersaalkirche - magnificent interior with lifesize stations of the cross and other priceless icons and artifacts, but the real story here is of Father Rupert Mayer, a Jesuit priest who protested against the Nazis, was sentenced to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, and later beatified by John Paul II. He is considered a hero in Bavaria. As well, a sobering visit to Dachau Concentration Camp is a 20 minute train ride out of Munich. We stayed this last time across the street from the Hauptbahnhof at the Le Méridien Munich, very comfortable business class and convenient to UBahn, SBahn and national/international trains. Nymphenburg Palace is lovely, and you may be interested in the Olympiapark area as well. Others have mentioned Hofbräuhaus which is great, noisy fun. More in depth from our blog: /" See More
