NileGuide Expert tip:

Rather than dragging your camping gear all around the ends of the earth, rent the whole kit from Erratic Rock and spend the nights before and after your trip to Torres del Paine at this tidy hostel.

Description:

Open since 2004, Erratic Rock is the go-to hostel for folks who might not yet have figured out just how wild they want their Patagonia experience to get. The staff is well-suited to the sask at hand, and in addition to clean dorm-style accommodations, they have new lodge-style digs, with double beds and private bathrooms.

The hostel is located 5 blocks from the bus stop on a quiet street, and while the wood floors and ceilings can be creaky, this hostel attracts a fairly outdoorsy (and tired!) crowd, so once night falls and the communcal kitchen closes at 10 PM, it goes silent fairly quickly. A second location at Benjamin Zamora 732 has a similar eco-friendly vibe, and in fact, erratic rock has set up the first recycling station for MSR canisters for stoves.
