Rise and meet the minivan at your hotel in Puerto Viejo at the crack of dawn, 5 am, and head south to the entrance of Manzanillo-Gandoca Wildlife Refuge, where the expert bird watcher guide will guide you on a hike into the national park, and point out a multitude of birds in their natural habitat. Typical sightings include honeycreepers, humming birds, fly catchers, kingfishers and trogons-among the species that are prevalent in the region. On this birdwatching tour, expect to see between 20 to 60 species, identifiable by the guide by their distinctive whistles and behavior.
