Description:

One of the most beautiful locations in Queretaro, the 1810 is in the heart of the historical secction on Plaza de Armas, at the spitting dog fountain. They do have an indoor area but why sit inside when the atmosphere is unbeatable outside on the plaza, especially in the evening when musicians stroll past, flower vendors and native craftsmen wander past to sell their goods. You also have a ring-side seat to the re-enactment of the revolution on the plaza each evening at 7:00 during the centennial and bi-centennial. Excellent food, especially the filet de res roquefort (steak with roquefort cheese), huauhinango style white fish, and my personal favourite, 1810 shrimp – a bacon wrapped, cheese stuffed shrimp with black corn fungus sauce. Very good service. A little pricier than other area restaurants but you won't regret it. If you're feeling gutsy or want something exotic to brag about when you get home, try the grasshopper or ant eggs. Grasshopper isn't bad, crunchy, but kind of ugly when their little legs get caught between your teeth. Ant eggs…not touching them! The desserts are good, but I suspect they're purchased from a central bakery as they're the same as most other restaurants in town. Wine list is limited but they serve it expertly. To me, being presented with a cork from a bottle of Pedro Domecq is a bit like being asked to sniff a twist-off top. The desserts are good, but I suspect they're purchased from a central bakery as they are the same as most other restaurants in town. Opens at 8:00 in the morning with breakfast, but plan to have dinner there at least once during your visit to Queretaro absorb the evening atmosphere.
