As a getaway, it's been called "Georgia's sweetest secret garden." Built in 1922, some of the hotel's original rhododendron and twisted laurel are still here. Quilts on the beds and tiebacks holding the ruffled curtains add to the rustic charm. Most of the guest rooms now have air conditioning and private bath. Guests gather informally around the big, old fireplace in the great room. The food is good and home-cooked with a five-star chef now on site. Canoes are available if you'd like a closer look at the lake.
