Chumash Painted Cave State Historic Park

Santa Barbara, CA 93105

(805) 968-1711, (805) 733-3713

Located three miles south of San Marcos Pass on Painted Cave Road off of Highway 154, you'll find a cool canyon once frequented by the Chumash Native Americans. The native population who called the Central Coast home painted now mysterious images on cave walls made of sandstone boulders. Available for viewing daily from dawn until dusk, the rock art is considered some of the finest remaining cave paintings by the Chumash, and is estimated to date back to the 1600s or earlier.
