Description:

La Castellana is a Barrio Brasil classic, a cheap eats restaurant with a paid video jukebox, large plates of crispy fries, chorillana (a national dish of stewed beef and onions served over a heaping portion of fries), sandwiches, Chilean-style pizzas and cheap pitchers of beer.

It has outdoor and upstairs seating, and a downstairs area that seats about 40. You'll see groups of friends from about mid-20s and up, and sometimes older, but the offerings are pretty basic, so if you're looking for something fancier, you'll want to look further afield.

What La Castellana has is decent Chilean food (including a giant cazuela, or chicken soup with squash, corn and lots of broth), cheap beer, an easy going environment and "convenient" prices, which is how we say "cheap" in Chileno. You won't find a lot of fuss and muss, but you'll get a good view into a normal hangout in Barrio Brasil without feeling like you've walked into someone else's private party.
