Description:

Since opening in March, 2011, things are going well fro Ciudad de Mexico Mexican restaurant in Providencia. Inside there are many cute details, like the fake adobe roof and hanging multicolored papercut flags over the kitchen, a cheery interior and little sombreros on the napkin holders.

But the real star here is the food. From fresh-fried tortilla chips with two kinds of salsa (a spicier one and one that's a very mild pico de gallo), to dishes including enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas and a few kinds of ceviche, this puts much of the other Mexican food in Santiago to shame.

There are a few interesting items on the menu, including some cheese sticks that are actually just rolled melted cheese, served with sour cream (not American style, rather thin), and guacamole. Portions are large but not excessive, and the service is excellent. Mexican style ranchera music played throughout the night. They serve beers michelada style (with chile and lemon), if you like, and margaritas. They will modify dishes to make them vegetarian with possible, and invented vegetarian enchiladas for me when I visited, though they were not on the menu.

A good place to go with several friends, and definitely family-friendly. They have a nonsmoking room that is separate from the smoking section.
