NileGuide Expert Says:

it's easy for this to be the best Korean café, since it's the only one in Santiago, but it's absolutely worth a visit.

NileGuide Expert tip:

Take a break from clothing shopping in Patronato for this fairly secret café in a tiny storefront serving good pastries and coffee.

Description:

It's a bit unexpected, a Korean bakery in the middle of Santiago, but the neighborhood, this slice of Recoleta called Patronato is heavily Korean-influenced, and the bakery is no exception. They have light-as air pastries, with fillings from chocolate chips to ham and cheese and perfect French "macarrones" with a creamy filling.

In addition to the sweets, which feature creamy cakes and light pastries, they do brisk business in tea and coffee, and were happy to make me an iced tea with milk, which is nearly impossible to find in Chile. The owner works many of the days of the week and is happy to stop for a chat and tell you more about his café. It works on the tray system, where you com and take a tray, and use tongs to select your pastries, which you pay for, and thn they bring to the table. It is impeccably clean, strangely wallpapered, and a tiny piece of Korea in Santiago.
