A temple of classical music and neo-classical "Louis XVI" architecture, Sala São Paulo is one of the premier concert halls in all of Latin America.Opened originally as Estação Júlio Prestes train station in 1938, the building was restored in the mid-1990s to accommodate the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra. In 2000, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology honored the architects responsible for Sala São Paulo's transformation, characterized by a mobile lining scheme that allows the venue to adjust its acoustic style to fit various occasions.
The ticket office opens Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or until the start of a concert, and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or showtime. On Sundays and holidays with performances, the ticket office opens two hours prior to the event.
The surrounding Complexo Cultural Júlio Prestes contains other venues, like the Estação das Artes, that regularly host cultural and social events.
