One of eleven Livraria Cultura outlets across Brazil, the sprawling, three-story bookstore, in the Conjunto Nacional building, on Avenida Paulista is the country's biggest. Four specialized mini-stores—dedicated solely to the arts or to music among other themes—have also opened in the same shopping center since 2007.  The Bela Vista locale also boasts a popular café with wireless internet (not free). The central hub is open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday and holidays. All of the Livraria Cultura stores also host events, including plays for children, jazz concerts and book signings.

The Livraria Cultura chain was founded in 1947 by Eva Herz, who came to Brazil to escape the Holocaust. Her son Pedro now runs the company.
