Situated in so-small-its-barely there Millthorpe, Tonic is a very metropolitan restaurant, deep into the West of NSW. Tonic provides all that you might expect from a chef who has worked for the likes of Gordon Ramsey and Matt Moran – hip, now, and satisfying, ticking all the right boxes: good solid food, but with enough ideas thrown at the menu to keep you interested. The menu itself is modern Australian, with the usual creative spins on fresh local produce, while Millthorpe is a tiny heritage listed village, filled with pretty, historic buildings and cobblestoned streets. It is a fair drive from Sydney, so a visit to Tonic is a commitment – it is not worth coming out here for the restaurant alone. But if you find yourself in this part of the world, the Tonic is an excellent choice.
