Vulcans has a reputation that has spread right down the mountains, through the great Western expanses of Sydney and into the fashionable inner-city haunts – and over that time many a brave soul has propelled themselves up into the Blue Mountains towards Blackheath to check it out for themselves. Blackheath is the last town in the string of villages that back off up into the Blue Mountains. Being quite high, there can be a distinct chill to the air in the pretty township. Blackheath is a relaxed place, filled with hippies and alternative lifers and so on, and surrounded on all sides by gorgeous wilderness. If you are coming up here for dinner, try to come up during the day and spend some time exploring the forest. The food itself is excellent – once again, a mountains gem that is well worth discovering.
