El Sur Mexican Restaurant on the east side is dishing up the kind of down-home Mexican grub that Mexican grandmothers everywhere have stewing on their stoves. The homemade salsa is made fresh daily, the tortillas are steaming and soft, and the crispy flautas are perfectly fried. Dig into the chile rellenos, fajitas, and green corn tamales--all are winners. The menu may not win a prize for creativity, and there's no ambiance to speak of, but the food here is reliably good. A good choice for a quick lunch on the east side.
