NileGuide Expert tip:

The Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival can get very busy on the weekends, with locals bringing their kids out to enjoy the event, so head out there on a weekday if you can.

Description:

The Kortright Conservation Area is a conservation area covering 325 hectares of woodlands, and it's the perfect spot to get out into nature. It's a little more than a half-hour's drive from downtown Toronto (unfortunately, it is not easily accessible on public transportation), and has a network of trails for hiking in the spring, summer and fall, and cross-country skiing in the winter. In the fall, it's the perfect place to take in the changing colours of the leaves, and in late winter/early spring they host the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival, with demonstrations of how maple syrup is made today and how it was made in pioneer times. The Kortright Centre is also involved in environmental education and the demonstration of renewable and sustainable energy technologies. It has a variety of workshops and programs for schools and for the public.
