NileGuide Expert Says:

Low-key and relaxed, sometimes a place like Butterfly Pavilion is just what the doctor ordered.

Description:

Kids and parents and those who just want to commune with nature appreciate a place where they can stand among 1,200 beautiful, free-flying butterflies. The ultimate reward comes when one lands on a shoulder. People without fear can hold a live tarantula (friendly museum ambassador "Rosie") in their hand. The Butterfly Pavilion is dedicated to educating folks about invertebrates—most visitors just know them as butterflies and insects. Displays here tend to revolve around actual critters and hands-on activities. Small and intimate, it's definitely out of the ordinary and a nice change of pace from stuffy museums. With its tropical environment, it's also a nice escape from a dreary, wintery day. There are paths around the building for light hiking and getting away from it all in general—if only for an hour or two.
