First Time in Whistler

Description:

You've come to Whistler for the crisp fresh air and soft pillow-like snow and when you arrive, to your delight, you see that there is so much more. Whistler is a small town with a large list of fun things to do, year round.

Whistler Village is the main artery of the town. There you will find most of Whistler's restaurants, bars, hotels, cafes and attractions.

The base of the gondola for Whistler/Blackcomb is in the Village, but there's also another gondola over at Creekside, which is just a five minute bus ride away from the Village. There are grocery stores at both Creekside and in the Village, which is convenient if you're renting one of the many suites with cooking amenities.

Much of Whistler Village is pedestrian only and it's small enough that walking everywhere is a breeze. There is a bus system and taxi services, so if you're leaving the Village, it's quite easy to get around.

No matter what time of year you're venturing to Whistler, you're sure to have a good time and take advantage of the city's great outdoors.

Day 1 - Whistler

Whistler is one compact little town, bursting with fun things to do! When people think of Whistler, they often think of snow and mountains. Truth be told, you can hit the glaciers all year long and skiing in the heat of the summer isn't a distant dream! Peak Adventure is also an activity that you can do year-round and take in the jaw-dropping views. Whistler Village is the main hub of the town and here you will find plenty of tasty restaurants, cafes, galleries and attraction offices where you can buy tickets for things like a horsedrawn sleigh ride, dog sledding and heli-skiing - to name just a few.

Ziptrek & TreeTrek Ecotours is one of the coolest outdoor activities, off the snowy mountains. Reach extreme speeds and the wind in your hair - it's unlike anything else!

During the summer months, the Beaches at Alta Lake are a popular spot amongst picnic goers, swimmers and sun tanners. It's a short drive from the Village, so it's pretty easy to get to.

If you're in Whistler with small children and family, there are plenty of things to keep you and the kids busy. Horsedrawn sleigh rides, the Coca-Cola Tube Park and Bald Eagle Viewing are just a handful of the wide range of family pickings.

This short list of ten major attractions is just the tip of the iceberg in Whistler. Spend a day, a week or a month there and you will never run out of things to do!

Day 2 - Whistler

Just like Vancouver, Whistler is a hot spot when it comes to great grub. There are plenty of high end restaurants to unleash your wallet, as well as lovely cafes that serve great soups, sandwiches and casual delights.

While in British Columbia, you must get your dose of sushi; it's a staple in the BC diet. With fresh fish just swimming off the coast, it's easy to find top quality fish for a reasonable price. Sachi Sushi is the place to go in Whistler.

If you're looking for something casual, family friendly and a pub like atmosphere, head to the Whistler Brewhouse. They've got a great menu that is reasonably priced and even the pickiest eater will find something to nosh on. They also brew their own beer, how can you say no to that?

Elements Urban Tapas is a favorite amongst locals and expect to see a bit of a wait during peak hours. Brunch there is especially delicious, so make sure to check that out one morning. The menu is varied and full of fresh ingredients, making each bite lovely and tasty!

If you're after something a little more high end for a special night, Araxi and the Rimrock Café are Whistler's top restaurants. If Araxi is good enough for celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsey, it's good enough for you.

Most restaurants are located in the Village, or a short walk away from the Village. If you're staying in the Village, you need not worry about a car.

Day 3 - Whistler

After a long day on the slopes and a hearty meal to fill the void, you should have enough energy left to take advantage of Whistler's nightlife. A large majority of nightlife here is located in Whistler Village and this lends itself nicely to bar-hopping.

If you're looking for a charming pub atmosphere, head to the Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub. Other popular spots amongst locals are Dusty's, Milestone's and the Mix. The Mix has great cocktails, good music and an attractive crowd.
Milestone's is a chain restaurant/bar but you can count on them to have a reliable atmosphere and drink menu. It's a great place to meet up for a drink or two.

Good beats, a buzzing dance floor and fun crowd can be found at Garfinkel's Night Club. Put on your dancing shoes and dance the night away!

Day 4 - Whistler

Even locals never tire when it comes to their favorite things to do in Whistler. Expressions Art Studio is in Whistler Village and is a great little spot where you can keep warm and let out the inner artist in you. Whether you're visiting and looking to make your own souvenir, or a local adding to your pottery/art collection - you will enjoy yourself.

Who doesn't like fondue? Mix together fondue with snowmobiling and you've got yourself a perfect time! Glide along the white powder and work up your appetite because a cheesy delight awaits you.

During the summer months, Whistler is packed with avid outdoorsy types and they come from all over to experience the hikes, fishing, golfing and river rafting. Whistler River Adventures is the perfect guide to show you a good time on BC's fresh waters.

Once a year, some of British Columbia's best restaurants showcase their food alongside wines from around the world. It's a multi-day festival, so if you're a foodie and wine enthusiast, you cannot miss this!

Everyone likes to relax, especially when you're on vacation. The Spa at the Four Seasons is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon and get some R and R.
