Helen's Cafe is located close to the Bo Wu Guan bus stop a few stops away from Xiamen University's West Village. The establishment has a few outdoor booths, and a large amount of benches and tables throughout it's medium-sized facilities. Decorated with rugged western curios and Mao era photos, the bar has a rustic charm with a homeyness emphasized by the many signatures and sayings scrawled on the walls by clients. It's ambiance is relaxed, and the cafe is a popular hangout for university students in the area.The cafe serves coffee, tea, and a very wide selection of food including English breakfasts, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and salads. The bar has a large selection of liquors and serves cocktails, beers, and shots.
Helen's Cafe is especially unique because it's cheap and has a great range of daily specials, from free beers, free coffee, lowered prices on sandwiches, and great drink specials on the weekends. The bar is also one of the few places in Xiamen to offer customers hookah, with a variety of tobacco flavors. Unfortunately this has made the bar, which used to be a more hidden and laid back hangout, into a very boisterous and crowded affair on the weekends. Nevertheless, as a cafe during the day, Helen's is a great place to read, relax, and work.
