This makes a good winter trek on skis or snowshoes.

Description:

Like its neighbor to the north, not many Yosemite visitors make it to the Henness Ridge Fire Lookout; you could have this viewpoint to yourself all day long.  Turn off of Hwy. 41 where the signs indicate Yosemite West.  Take an immediate left into a dirt parking area (significant construction is intended here, but this road will still be here and accessible).  Follow the most-used pavement/dirt road that goes off to the west on the horizontal, or uphill - don't take any roads going downhill.  About a mile's walk or snowshoe or XC ski will bring you to the top of Henness Ridge where a historic 3-story fire tower sits. You can climb the stairs to the upper balcony for a view of the western edge of the Sierra, overlooking the South Fork Merced canyon.  Enjoy the space and the view.
