Grenade Hall Forest and Signal Station

Description:

  • Across the parking lot from the Barbados Wildlife Reserve, this complex features a mahogany forest with nature trails and labeled flora. There is also a signal station, one of a series of five such stations erected on high hills across the island, used by white colonials to send signals in times of slave rebellions. Whilst each offers spectacular views, they lost their usefulness when telephones were introduced to the island, in 1883.
