From five star hotels to backpacker hostels Cardiff has a hotel to suit your budget and taste. The main areas for business hotels are the city center and Cardiff Bay. Guesthouses and small hotels can be found in the outlying areas of Roath and Cathays.
Luxury hotels in Cardiff include the Thistle (city-center), the Barcelo Cardiff Angel Hotel (close to Cardiff Castle), and the Cardiff Hilton (close to Queen Arcade and has great views of Cardiff Castle). St David’s Hotel and Spa, situated on the waterfront at Cardiff Bay is also worth checking out.
Mid-range hotels include the Sandringham Hotel is within walking distance of Cardiff’s millennium Stadium and popular with concertgoers. The hotel is also home to one of Cardiff’s favorite jazz venues – Café Jazz. The café has live jazz and blues Monday to Friday from 9pm. The Cardiff Marriott is a family-friendly hotel located close to the Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral of St David. Also close is the café quarter of Cardiff which, unsurprisingly, is full of little restaurants and bars. Film buffs might enjoy a stay at the Big Sleep Hotel – the actor John Malkovich designed some of the rooms. The hotel is opposite Cardiff International Arena.
Cathedral Road is a great place to check out if you’re looking for family run hotels. Enormous Victorian town houses along the street have been turned into places to stay. The Hayes Court hotel, Riverbank and the Clare Court are all within a 5-10 minute walk from the city center.
If you’re on a budget the best bet is to head to the student areas of Roath and Cathays. There are lots of bed and breakfasts in the area as well as small guesthouses. Beeches (overlooking Roath Park), Albany and The Lynx are popular low cost options. For those that want to stay in Cardiff Bay the Holiday Inn Express is a good option.
