- Nothing feels like big city more than the Gold Coast area with its' gorgeous mansions, luxury shopping, and proximity to the Mag Mile! Start your day here with some shopping, or more likely window shopping, as Prada, Kate Spade, and Barney's are the main attractions here. Then take a stroll through the neighborhoods to admire the stone mansions and some of the oldest architecutre in the city, including the Charnley Persky House, the oldes modern home in America. And, if you are enjoying all the architecture, learn more at the Chicago Architecture Foundation. Then head closer to the Mag Mile to marvel at views of the city from the John Hancock Observatory or wander through the Museum of Contemporary Art. If you are ready for more take in a little history at the African American History Museum, or learn something new at the International Museum of Surgical Sciences, or take a tour of the beautiful Newberry Library, packed with rare books and manuscripts. Finally, if it is a beautiful day spend it at Oak Street Beach, just at the edge of the Gold Coast, and rent a bike to explore the lake front!
