NileGuide Expert Says:
Featured in The Economist's city guide: "owned and run by Jacky Yu—a celebrity TV chef—and is regularly booked several months in advance. The restaurant is on the third floor of a run-down commercial building in Wan Chai, but the interior is quirky and cosy, and lined with modern Chinese paintings. Like many of these speakeasies, it has a fixed-price menu that gives the diner many small and unusual dishes, such as pig's feet, deep-fried pork belly with Thai sauce, and glutinous rice steamed with beef shank."
Description:
- Xi Yan means "a banquet of joy" in English, and this restaurant surely lives up to its name. Jacky Yu, the popular chef, has put in his best to it a foodie's delight. His efforts can be seen in his exquisite preparations, such as greenhouse tomatoes with sesame jus, nutmeg "a la Classic", seared oyster with tangerine and honey jus, and glutinous rice steamed with beef shank. The decor is quite relaxing and it puts you at ease—the interior seems more like a Chinese home, and you can relax and unwind over your meal.
