Wing Lee Street

Wing Lee Street - Hong Kong

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

20 minutes walk from the Sheung Wan MTR station.

    Description:

    • Wing Lee street just like any Hong Kong street, except it located in Sheung Wan near Shing Wong Street, Bridges Street, Ladder Street and the Former Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters.

In Wing Lee Street, there are some old Hong Kong 1960s buildings. The street has been described as "the seediest street in Hong Kong" and the Urban Renewal Authority planned to redevelop Wing Lee Street with Staunton Street as H19 project. But after Echoes of the Rainbow was filmed at this street and won the Crystal Bear for the Best Film in the Children's Jury "Generation K plus" category at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival, the redevelopment plan was scrapped.

Its a dead end road so only local residents ever go there. In the past residents would take out their wooden chairs and chat with fellow neighbours whilst kids played hide and seek during sunset.

Wing Lee Street isn't even 100 feet long and its old crumbling buildings are hardly worth mentioning, you'll see nothing much except the Winner Fashion sign that swings in the middle of the road. Wing Lee Street is encapsulated in time and sticks out like a sore thumb in the magnificent cosmopolitan Hong Kong.
