Jerusalem is a very kid-friendly place. There are plenty of sites where kids and teens can run around and explore for themselves, along with museums and attractions that cater specifically for kids.
Top pick for a fun thing to do for kids is the Ramparts Walk along the walls of the Old City. They can act out what it would have been like to be a soldier guarding the city back in the Middle Ages--be sure to stop at one of the slits in the stone to explain how arrows were fired from there and show them the place where boiling oil would be tipped down from the ramparts onto the approaching enemy!
Close by in the Old City is the City of David where kids will have fun sloshing though the ancient water tunnels as well as cooling off as they watch the entertaining and educational 3-D 15-minute presentation about the history of King David.
For something completely different, take them Go Karting for a break from sight seeing.
Fourth on the list is the Genesis Land, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, which does a really good job of letting kids and families experience what life was like in biblical times.
For a more contemporary look at Jerusalem, take the kids to Ammunition Hill, site of one of the major battles of the 1967 Six Day War, where they can scramble through the trenches used by Israeli soldiers.
Number six most kid-friendly place is the Liberty Bell Park, that's within walking distance of most of Jerusalem's major hotels. Climbing frames, picnic spaces, a roller-skating rink, basketball court and pleasant flower-lined walkways make this a family-pleaser.
The Tisch Biblical Zoo allows visitors to see animals mentioned in the Bible in authentic recreations of their natural habitat with good explanatory material to match. A great place for families to enjoy a day together.
If you have time, head over to the Youth Wing of the Israel Museum, where there are always interesting activities on offer for kids.
