  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Lake Tahoe is a perfect place for recreation, picnics and just for enjoying the outdoors. There are numerous natural, recreational and beaches around the lake where you can just toss out a blanket and relax.

For some beach action, head to Sand Harbor on the East Shore, King's Beach on the North Shore or Lester Beach on the West Shore in the D.L. Bliss State Park. You can also enjoy some people watching at Kiva Beach or Baldwin Beach near Camp Richardson.

Emerald Bay is one of the most popular places on the lake for a reason. It's a great place for a light hike, a beach picnic or some exploring of the Vikingsholm Mansion.

For some places away from the main part of the lake, head to Truckee and Donner Lake for some fishing or hanging out on the public docks. Visit Washoe Lake State Park for nature trails and sights of wild birds and other animals or Davis Creek State Park for a picnic or a plunge into the creek or small pond. If you don't mind a little bit of a drive from Tahoe, head up to Caples Lake or Blue Lakes off of Hwy. 88 for some more quiet time.
