  • London's parks and gardens are glorious, so stunning in fact, a top ten list may not be equitable. Often called greens, the top ten parks, gardens and open spaces in London are guaranteed to impress in any order.

London's most famous of the 9 Royal Parks is Hyde Park centrally located and occupies 350 acres bridging the neighborhoods of Knightsbridge and Bayswater. The park's lake known as the Serpentine, popular for hiring boats runs into Kensington Gardens connecting the two parks. Kids adore the Princess Diana playground in the northwest corner, search for the Peter Pan statue in the setting for J.M. Barrie's classic book or run the trails favored by urban joggers.

The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew requires a half day at minimum to explore the Victorian glass houses, the 250 years of plant history, climb above the treetops and enjoy tea break. You'll be sure to stay much longer than planned when you see the sheer beauty of the gardens.

30,000 roses bloom each year in Queen Mary's Garden within Regent's Park. Also know for the Open Air Theatre summer program and home to the London Zoo. Climb Primrose Hill for panoramic views of London.

Just slightly further afield are Holland Park, Chiswick House and Battersea Park used mainly by local Londoners and less congested.

Just across from Westminster over Lambeth Bridge is a hidden museum dedicated to garden history. A peaceful garden provides respite from the hustle just outside. Learn the secrets of inner city gardening.
