  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Oslo is a very kid-friendly city. Sure, you'll find amusement- and aqua parks. But much better to let them frolic about in the forest, on the fjord, climb on sculptures, run on the roof of the Opera House, exploring kiddie art or making their own masterpieces.

Oslomarka forest offers numerous opportunities for active family holidays. In winter, miles and miles of crisp, white cross-country tracks lure local families outdoors as often as possible. If your family prefers alpine skiing and snowboarding, Tryvann vinterpark offers all kinds of downhill fun for all ages.

On Main Street, Karl Johan, is Narvisen skating rink. Best of all is Korketrekkeren, a 2-kilometre-long toboggan run (sledges can be rented nearby). In summer, Oslomarka offers hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming in cool, refreshing forest lakes. For younger kids, EKT at Ekeberg offers pony riding and a petting zoo.

Kids enjoy museums, too. At the International Museum of Children's Art and at Henie Onstad Art Centre (on Sundays), children can create their own masterpieces. 47-million-year-old Ida, the world's oldest primate fossil at the Natural History Museum is a huge hit among local kids. Your children will also enjoy the various cool exhibits at the Technical Museum. Kids interested in boats (and Vikings) will have fun at Bygdøy, home of viking ships, Polar exploration and rickety ocean-crossing rafts, as well as the very child-friendly outdoor Cultural History Museum.
