Jing An District
Home to one of Shanghai's business districts, Jing An is filled with luxury shopping malls, modern office buildings and expatriate residential complexes. For expatriates, Jing'an is the place to be with hole-in-the-wall bars galore and live entertainment most nights outside Jing'an Temple and the Plaza 66 shopping center. The famous Shanghai Ritz Carlton and the popular La'Meridian hotel are located in Jing'an, which provides tourists with a perfect launching-off point for their tours of Shanghai.
Many excellent dining options are located along the western stretch of Nanjing Road, which cuts through Jing An. You'll also find that Nanjing Road is a lively place to start a walking tour of northern Shanghai. Even if you don't stay at the Ritz, the hotel staff are more than willing to provide maps and tourist information, and many conferences, tour groups and other companies have taken up residence in the Ritz's two business towers.
Jing An Temple, which is located on Nanjing West Road, and live entertainment commences many nights of the week around the Temple from dusk until dawn. The nearby shopping mall contains several lively bars, and the basement houses a metro stop making transportation to and from the Temple an ease.
