  • The Singaporean population is predominantly Chinese, so it's no surprise that Chinese restaurants dominate the food scene here. Whether you're up for a quick bite to eat in a local zi char joint, a piping hot bowl of wanton soup at a hawker centre, a slap-up dim sum feast or an elaborate multi-course banquet, you'll have no trouble finding a Chinese restaurant in Singapore.

Local restaurant chain Crystal Jade is one of Singapore's great success stories and now boasts countless restaurants around Asia. Its three fine-dining restaurants are featured on our list, including Crystal Jade Golden Palace in the top spot. Ignore the fact that this restaurant is in a shopping mall, it dishes up some of the best dim sum in town and offers an elegant setting for a classy evening Cantonese meal.

If it's atmosphere you're after then head up to One Rochester, to dine al-fresco amongst the foliage at the converted black-and-white colonial bungalow of Min Jiang at One North. Their Peking Duck is what keeps its regulars heading back time and again, prepared to a traditional Northern Chinese recipe, and not to be missed.

You'll find many of the top Chinese restaurants in the city's five star hotels, such as three choices on our list - the sophisticated Royal China at Raffles Hotel, Hai Tien Lo with its spectacular views of Marina Bay, and Jiang-Nan Chun at the Four Seasons, where the weekend a la carte buffet brunch is excellent value and a great choice for a feast with friends. Other hotel Chinese restaurants which aren't featured here, but are definitely worth checking out, include the Cherry Garden at the Mandarin Oriental, Yan Ting at the St Regus and the Shang Palace at the Shangri-La.

For a more laid-back dining experience, try out the ever-popular bustling Yum Cha in the heart of Chinatown, a great option for a dim sum blow-out whilst you're out souvenir shopping.
