  • For those game enough to brave the heat and humidity, you will find plenty of worthwhile activities to enjoy outdoors in Singapore. The tropical climate means plenty of tropical rainforest to explore, and the island setting means beaches and coastline are on the doorstep. So if you're bored of the air-con, then here are our top ten outdoor things to do in Singapore.

Top of the list is the Botanic Gardens - a tropical oasis just a short walk from the urban consumerist setting of Orchard Road. Spend a few hours exploring its sloping lawns, lakes, fountains and sculpture gardens or head to the National Orchid Garden, one of Singapore's top attractions with over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchid to admire. For something more wild and rugged, then head into some of the preserved tropical rainforest of national reserves MacRitchie Reservoir, where you can do the 12km HSBC Treetop Walk trail, or Bukit Timah National Park, where you can climb to the top of Singapore's highest hill.

Pulau Ubin gives you the opportunity to see what Singapore was like back before all those skyscrapers appeared - choose to explore trails on a hired bike, or join Ubin Kayak to get in amongst the tranquil mangroves and hopefully spot some local wildlife while you're at it. Or if you prefer your walk to be more urban, join on a guide Original Singapore Walk to get a flavour of the local history while you're at it.

Finally, if you prefer your outdoor time to be more leisurely, then kick back on the beaches of Sentosa, or jump aboard a harbour cruise to get a different perspective of the island from the sea.
