Bishamonten

Description:

  • A very popular temple amongst local worshipers, the Bishamonten or Bishamon-sama of Kagurazaka as it is locally referred to as, is located in a very prominent area of Tokyo. Tiger carvings welcome devotees within to the temple's courtyard. Once within, one can find the statue of Bishamonten-zo. This temple comes to life at the local three day Kaguarazaka Matsuri held in honor of the God, during which locals dressed in the traditional Yukatas arrive at the temple worship and pay homage to Bishamonten-zo. The Kagurazaka Festival is also another popular religious and cultural gathering held here. Lectures on spirituality are also held here. Call ahead to know more.
