Description:

Whether you are looking for fresh pasta, succulent meat, a good bottle of wine, or just fresh produce, Les Halles Sainte Claire is the place to shop. This indoor/outdoor market has been a staple of Grenoble life since 1874.

Inside the glass, brick, and metal halls, you will find stands selling fresh meats, cheeses, and various prepared dishes like sauerkraut (by a real Alsatian), ready-to-bake cannelloni, and homemade terrines. Fruit and vegetable stands surround the building, along with a florist and an olive seller. He always has at least 20 different varieties of the salty little fruit.

Bring your own bag (preferably a large one) if you plan on shopping here. Most people bring a large, reusable sack or a rolling caddy and fill it as they go. The Sainte Claire halls are open until 1 p.m., but its best to go a little early to avoid crowds and to have the best selection. The alleyways inside the halls are a bit narrow, so be prepared to brush against other shoppers if you go late.

The Halles Sainte Claire are open Tue.-Sun. 6:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., and Friday 6:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
