Description:

The Automaton museum was created in 1995 and is filled with whimsical, colorful automatons. Visitors even get the chance to make some of the creations move. The collection brings together more than 300 automatons, music boxes, and barrel organs.

Although one model was created by da Vinci himself, the museum's prized piece is Vaucanson's mechanical duck, which "eats" and "digests" food. Jacques de Vaucanson was a Grenoble-born inventor and mechanic who also improved weaving techniques with a new loom that would be used in many of Lyon's silk factories.
